Re: Everybody OK?

:waving: Thank you bukowski, and thanks to everyone for the good wishes. P.S. my tee says "The Clash, 77" in the middle, "Guns of Brixton" on top, and "South London" on the bottom. Saw them at the Ontario theater in DC, with local band DCEats first and the Plasmatics second, and at University of Ma...

Re: Never Surrender!

I point out that in Zen Buddhist practice, surrender is not part of the system of training, Joe - To me, surrender is an integral foundation of zen practice. It is linked to the elimination of ego also - trust requires surrender, what? It is, as Linda points out, to do with self, not one's teacher ...

Re: Zen and The Nothing Person

Hi boda, all. :waving: I thought the piece i wrote was fairly clear, but just to try to add some context, i was talking about our natural desire to see failings in others whilst being blind to our own failings. That's it. Nothing much to read into or consider I'm afraid. Hope that helps Metta, bukow...

Re: The job and purposes of forum moderation

Hi all. :hatsoff: I found it really tough to be a mod when i had the role in the past. It seems that humans have the innate ability to find fault in others, whilst being blind to our own failings and areas of development. I certainly include myself in this characterisation. I'm also drawn back towar...

Re: the desire to have children

And of course there is love, joy, beauty and infinite compassion on this planet as well. New life means new hope and opitimism for an increase in all of these good things. Our generation, and generations that preceeded it have made something of a mess. Who knows, maybe the next generation can start ...

Re: the desire to have children

Hi fuki. I think everyone has different reasons for wanting kids. I was nearly 40 when we had our son oli. I think my wife and i slowly came to the conclusion that our relationship was at a stage where it was strong and loving, we were both well, regarding physical and mental health, we had travelle...

Re: Split Thread: Safe Spaces for Traditions

Hi fuki. I guess i am advocating for taking responsibility for our own words and actions and not feeling that we need to correct any one elses Also, if someone who i loved and respected thought i was an ass hole i would have to ask why they feel that way? Still, if i disagree, in the end i can only ...

Re: Split Thread: Safe Spaces for Traditions

Hi all. For me the answer is to keep your side of the street clean, and don't worry too much about how others act or interact. If you call me an asshole and i know im not an asshole your comments don't belong to me, and you can keep them as i don't need to accept them. To quote kanye west, "haters g...

Re: How is Zen Space doing - a poll for all members, active, inactive, lurkers, come one, come all!

Hi Dan/all. Interesting discussion. I drop by here every now and then. I don't find i have that much to say these days, but i do enjoy reading peoples perspectives. I think that the further down the specific informed discussion path a site develops the smaller the cohort who will inhabit the space. ...

Re: Mindfulness Meditation

I try to mindfuly practice shikantaza, and then utilise the seeds of that practice in daily life. Im with kieth on this, in that i have never paid any attention to who is more, or less buddhist. I was taught that mindfullness is moment to moment awareness, without a specific long term goal in mind. ...
