Re: This Forum in Particular

Hi all. I'm one of the "lurkers" who visit, but rarely post. I Pop by, take a look and if nothing grabs me I move on. From time to time I see an interesting topic and I dive in. In my experience the more contentious the subject the more traffic it will get. Their doesn't tend to be lots of contentio...

Re: Trying to live a right life

Hi all. I don't believe that their is a black and white right or wrong thing to do in any situation. I almost never have all of the information, to make a fully informed choice, so i just have to consider what i can be certain of, and make a decission based upon that. I try to focus on causing no ha...

Re: Who are you?

When, as a child, I asked my mom where I was before I was born, and she said I was a twinkle in my dad's eye. The following day my dad asked me why I was looking so intently at him, and I explained that I was looking for the twinkle. This is a true story. I only recently realised the adult meaning of...

Re: Who are you?

Hi spike,

I understand what you are saying.

I think who we are can be a koan, but it can also just be a way of getting the right coffee in Starbucks.

In line with my teaching neither would be more important or take presidence.

Re: Who are you?

Fair play to your teacher spike. I'm still Karl though. Fully Karl. Every fibre is Karl. And of course Karl is a series of arising and ceasing conditions, without any intrinsic self. None of that changes the fact that the only person I have any knowledge of being is Karl, or that my friends and fami...

Re: Right View

So basically the 4 nobel truths but replacing suffering with stress. It makes complete sense to think that the right view is the four noble truths, to me. I agree that their can many different aspects to the establishment of right view, which must surely start from our individual current view. Nice ...

Re: Mindfulness Meditation

Is it like when one eats, one just eats; when one chops wood, one just chops wood? Exactly. You have given your own answer. Please tell me how you do that versus what you do now or previously??? There you go. That was how I was a taught also. My understanding of this teaching is that when I am at wo...

Re: Dear Members

Hi Clyde. Sorry, I hadn't commented on this subject before and I posted in the wrong place. And I completely understand the discomfort in trying to moderate a venerable teacher. I acutely remember asking rev nonin to town down some of his comments on e-sangha. I felt ridiculous doing it. Rev nonin h...

Re: Pierre Taigu Turlur (b. 1964)

Hi Clyde/all. I think that is a stunning dhama talk which goes straigh to the the heart of the most simple and complicated of practices from my perspective. There have been times when i have had the courage and persistance to drink the soup, and to realise that it tastes both awfull, and just the sa...

Re: Here's How To Kensho

Hi all. I won't get into the main debate, as I, like all of us I am sure have seen these form of debates aired out time and again. For me, whatever works is all good. Different roads to the same destination as far as I am concerned. I will, however say that I like having teachers around the forum, e...

Re: Being Healthy

Hi all. I swim. It may not lengthen my life but I feel better now, which is a priority. I also try not too watch or read things for entertainment that disturb me too much. And of course mediation is great for health in my experience. I think health takes many forms and anything we can do to improve ...

Re: Zen or nonzense

Hi all. I don't visit too frequently, as I don't find that I have too much to say. As I have got older my practice has changed and I can now find practice in most things. I have thought for some time that zen buddhism being a practical, everyday kind of faith doesn't lend itself well to discussion o...

Re: Is there not a “truth”?

One of the problems I have found with the truth is that I have changed my mind about what is the truth so many times in my life. I believe something is definitely the truth, and then I hear a really convincing argument for the other side and well, hmm, now I'm not so sure. I have found that all trut...
