Re: Ten Precepts

Nearly everything inherently intervenes and interacts- Even when sitting awake indoors, or sleeping, we inhale dust mite fecal matter that carries bacteria- Outdoors, likely much more- In this human condition, it's impossible not to kill- Maybe the closest we can come to it is the offering of equal...

avistor,
You have just pointed out why words and language can be dangerous. Words and language just creates more words and language and more thoughts. :113:
Depending upon what your aim is, it can be a good thing or something which hinders efforts.
Either way, there it is.

Re: Ten Precepts

If we carry the idea about killing animals to killing bacteria and virus then what does one do when confronted with a decision to kill the bacteria and virus to protect humans? If mosquitoes and ticks pass along dangerous disease then killing them would prevent human suffering Would it be right in t...

Re: Ten Precepts

Scientist have create a meat substitute
Grown in the lab and not on the farm
Of course the taste is no where near real meat.
Veggie burgers have more flavor and texture.

So the question becomes, does eating meat that is lab grown okay?? Karma wise??

Re: your favourite words/pointers inspire-thingies

I have been re-reading “The Korean Way of Zen”, translated by Martine Bachelor. Kusan Sunim (1909-1983) In Zen meditation, the key factor is to maintain a constant sense of questioning. So, having taken hold of the hwadu (koan) “What is this?,” try to always sustain the questioning: “What is seeing...

Re: personal/meditation experience(s)

Not a meditation experience .. but an illusion .. Its happened a few times while dropping off to sleep, I will be focused on whats in front of me when I doze off and go to sleep, then shortly there after I begin to wake, but before fully awake see in my mind what I was staring at when I fell asleep...

Re: personal/meditation experience(s)

When settled in, the breath does slow down by itself. I am not using breath as a tool to stop thoughts of control the attention. Just the brain usage goes down and breathing reflects such. Sometimes, I will be looking through my left eye Other times I notice I am looking through my right eye. Yes, e...

Re: Meditation, Zazen

My attitude is not one of acceptance. And, I do not take criticism well. Again sorry. I will shut up. Anything else? Short attention span maybe to add to the bundle of self(criticism)? ;) I know my faults as others point it out some times. Now, I must add self criticism to the list. :106: I cannot ...

Re: Meditation, Zazen

It's a good practice. Stillness, just sitting, watching breath in and out. Comments, explanations, thoughts??? Go on some retreats and get heavy-duty with it, to "learn" more. Maybe you've been fortunate to have the chance to do so already, family notwithstanding (bring them along on 7-day sesshin ...

Re: Meditation, Zazen

But, of course, this is --not-- Shikantaza. No one said it was. So why bring it up?? Ask Jundo, but it's a "habit" of teachers to do so, just like it's my "habit" to point out how ppl know so little (or too much) or mistake one thing for the other about my "fields of study" It's important to clearl...

Re: Meditation, Zazen

A very nice description of some kind of basic "Zazen" (quote unquote) or some kind of mindfulness meditation but, of course, this is --not-- Shikantaza. Gassho, J It proves my point. That no one method or way is better than another for everyone. No one implied otherwise here, your point is a by-pro...

Re: Meditation, Zazen

What makes one method or way better than others?? You- I've heard it said that when no (meditation) method works, don't search- Let the fire of your attention be the method and be where it benefits- It doesn't have to be seated, just be where it's needed- In dance, it's called spotting- Thank you. ...

Re: Meditation, Zazen

Got to begin somewhere. Might as well be here. The problem is not that someone start off with following the breath, or even breath "counting," which are very useful for beginners who really cannot center and allow their minds to settle at all, and who cannot easily release the grip of runaway thoug...

Re: Meditation, Zazen

How would someone know if one method or another is right for them if they don't try those methods?? That's like saying let's try a bunch of medicine to see if it matches a sickness, a sickness one might not even have! No it is not. Most medicines do have symptoms and illness for which they are suit...

Different stroke for different folks
Shikantaza may be fine for you
But, it may not be the best for every one.
Not everyone is the exact same
