Re: Study finds meditation may not make you a better person

It is much like the methodological flaws and biases shown in the vast majority of studies on meditation and health benefits, as we recently discussed. Well lets not throw the baby out with the bath water. Compassion is a subjective quality and hard to quantify. For instance, i know a woman who make...

Study finds meditation may not make you a better person

https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2018/02/180205092902.htm I really question this, because on a personal level i think it makes me less reactive, but i have no comment, just wanted to offer it up for discussion. Also i found this, been thinking about a vr headset and if i could get a hands free ...

Re: Everything is conscious some experts say- would Dogen agree?

All the Buddhas and all sentient beings are nothing but the One Mind, beside which nothing exists . This Mind, which is without beginning, is unborn and indestructible. It is not green nor yellow, and has neither form nor appearance. It does not belong to the categories of things which exist or do ...

Re: Problems in Treatment of Soto Zen at Dharma Wheel

... I'd encourage folks to also jump in at Dharma Wheel if they haven't already, since a pan-Buddhist board provides nice learning opportunities. But a Zen-specific board is also great and does the same...wishing success to the group here. ~ Meido Since this topic was raised, and I am not the one b...

why upstream?
I dont know.

Edit: Thought it might be a good idea to add an attribution for my sig, since it has become an object of discussion.

The quote is from "Zen Dawn: Early Zen texts from Tun Huang" translated by J.C. Cleary, section 7 of the Records of the Lanka.

lol, bridge..lol
You know that gave me pause :) My first thought was downstream, but then i realized that its more like a flower growing, rather than a kind of entropic unwinding, so i would have to say upstream given the two choices.

Why do you care if ppl accept or deny it?
I dont personally, i just think it would be a shame if people were driven away from something that might benefit them and for which there is good evidence of beneficial effect, by the presumed authority of the speaker.

Re: Whats your practice?

In my experience -- the body is absolutely and totally being used . Yeah i think so too. Its a kind of active relaxation, a sort of physical ongoing surrender. I was having trouble for a while sitting for my usual 40 minutes, my back was hurting but thats nothing new, and i think that part of the p...

Re: Flu is caused by?..

Likewise, "meditation" is solely a tool, an instrument -- you choose how to apply it. Putting aside Zen awakening, suppose you are about to raise and hold the "who am I" or "what is this" inquiry directed towards the body (either as a whole, or as a part of it, or towards a sensation, or investigat...

The minds intention can change the body and even the brain. There is plenty of evidence for that. Whether you want to call it chi or what ever, does the name make a difference? The awareness of self, that is ones particular individual viewpoint, is just the localized awareness of the entire system. Please keep such views to yourself on what is real Buddhism. You have a right not to accept the idea of re-birth but you don’t have the right to say that it’s not what the Buddha taught. What you are saying makes a matter of fact out to be a matter of opinion. What I am always missing in these conv...

Would you care to say why?
Because everything is worse when you resist and my behavior could use some improvement :)
