Zen is all of Life

Make no mistake.... this is not about zen people. It is zen, feet on the ground. WE don't need more identity spirituality, just like we don't need more identity politics. sigh Zen Is All of Life: Remembering Roshi Bernie Glassman https://www.lionsroar.com/zen-is-all-of-life-remembering-roshi-bernie-...

Re: Trying to live a right life

yes Fuki, thanks for the wise and compassionate words. We all do the best we can, no blame. Yet, for me, zen practice is about not believing our stories. At least that had a prominent place in my past... yes, ofc, we can't make ourselves do such things. I often think of our friend Oushi in such case...

Re: Trying to live a right life

Sorry, I walked the streets of NYC late at night when I was in college.... 42nd St to the Port Authority for the bus back to college from the train station... and I've been to Harlem and stood in line at the Apollo. NYC is a lot safer these days. Fear is not too helpful.... I know how to keep my eye...

Re: Mumonkan Case 5

What a predicament we have here! Spike had the tiger by the tail the first time. My teacher always said, show me. It's the koan way. If this had not been separated from the original post where I put it, it could have been a way shower. Instead, we have another koan in a separate box. no way to live ...

Re: Trying to live a right life

what Fuki, Spike and Larry said.... except offer what money you are willing.... forget the assessments of motive. a ride home would be fine, if nothing else. or simply a telephone call, or just saying "I'm glad you came in... are the kids waiting, or whatever. none of us are in a position to know wh...

Re: dependent origination

In all my years in zen, I have never heard anyone refer to this. ofc, I know what it is, Jung might say it's about synchronicity, but don't quote me. there is simultaneity in things. and bees arise around flowers.

Re: From dreams to actualization . . .

well, let's forget romanticizing anyone.... Ikku was a great poet, as many are in the art of suffering and instability. I don't care a whip about what he would say, tho he is right.... it rings the bell. For heavens sake, we must drop the idea of a lifestyle model.... much less the perfect one.

One of my closest Zen friends borrowed my "Way of Zen" five years ago. Yesterday he finally admitted that he lost it. But he compensated me with a pack of Osho Zen Tarot Cards  It just gets worse & worse  LOL!! it's come to this zennies. the question remains, did he get the essence of...

Re: From dreams to actualization . . .

Suggesting iconic Zen masters are victims is an interesting perspective. Reminds me of that old thread on ZFI asking if Hakuin needed psychotherapy. Maybe, in Ken Wilber's terms, the old masters weren't too good at growing up and cleaning up. Or, are we all ultimately victims? Cause and effect is n...
