Re: yunmen’s dried shit stick

what a shitstick! :113: Dear Guo Gu, Thanks for pointing out our blindspots, you're very kind. It's good to see that you're not attached to your own words, as well. I wonder, though, how effective this method is, in an Internet forum. Seems to me we can easily escape recognizing our shortcomings, a...

Re: Ordinary Buddha by Thich Nhat Hanh

Sure, but Linji was talking to monks, monastics (!), i.e. , 24-7 practitioners of the Dharma. Can we be as assiduous as those monastics? If not, we'd do well to ... try to be. Here's how. --Joe joe, you're idealizing monastics... 24-7? don't you know that in striving, awakening recedes further and ...

thanks, michael for sharing. and thank you and your son also for implementing your idea in ethiopia. here's one idea: in practice, as is elsewhere... where you save power is where power is gained. what seems like regress is progress... ppl usually try really hard to do this and do that in practice.....

Re: Why shouldn't I Look For A Meaning?

enver,
agreed, but "limit" has its utility sometimes. otherwise, there wouldn't be a need for a forum.
many point to vimalakirti's silence, but all in all, he's pretty verbose! :106:
one should be able to move freely within words, meaning, and concepts, yet not be bound by them.

yunmen's shitstick has proven to be nice trap through the gateless barrier! what's this talk about all is buddha? being one with the stick? painful? difficult? compassionate? as soon as the prefrontal cortex starts churning, the gate is closed and, one's just--through and through--a simple shitstic...

Bit over the top to my mind, unless yunmen actually spent time in the company of a dried shit stick
I have a shitstick that I use on occasion, when necessary.
Let’s remember, though, that dried shit does not stick.

Re: Jeff Shore on koan practice for lay people

jeff doesn't really teach koan... i would say he teaches closer to chan, using huatou or whatever one gets stuck in life. i asked him about this once. he said (paraphrasing) "most laypeople cannot go through the koan curriculum anyway." he went on to doubt the usefulness of the curriculum. my sense,...

hi all, i didn't read through the dw threads, only the first few passages/citations. but i will say that the poster has not experienced awakening. if s/he did, s/he would chose the correct passages. instead, what s/he has chosen are mostly words for those who have not experienced awakening yet. they...
