Re: "Commit everything to the posture" --Uchiyama Roshi

Ideas of actualisation can be both an impediment and a vehicle. Joe’s comment of “not helpful in the midst of deep practice” is itself an unhelpful compression of the scope of deep practice. My only observation was that I could see Joe's pointers and why he said what he said, and that there was no ...

Once when Dongshan was washing his bowls, he saw two birds contending over a frog. A monk nearby asked, "Why does it come to this?"

Dongshan said, "It’s only for your benefit."
Haha, different kind of "hunger" situation etc..

Re: "Commit everything to the posture" --Uchiyama Roshi

I'd say, if you or readers here are Zen Buddhist practitioners in a formal setting (Teacher and sangha), then let the teacher illuminate aspects of posture. Ideas of actualization of oneself and of the universe are too much b.s. front-loaded baggage [garbage], and not helpful in the midst of deep p...

Well it's only as important as drinking tea. (which, if you've had good tea, you know it's quite important!)

(just "joshing!" you, = b.s.-ing! you). ;) Joe. on my hunt for a new camera the interweb told me "all my cameras are the best cameras" but I don't fall that easily for commerical proverbs :hatsoff: But this camera really likes (needs) light, I knew when I purc...

Would be sweet to conjure up an illusion with Gautama, Lao tse and Plato, but Meido, GG and "Sir Bob"/desert Joe would be fine and honored company too! But when "commiting to the...

Personally I don't see much use in these meta-discussions. If you have a good source, please type it up! If you don't like someone's explanation, try to reason with them with good arguments. Passive-aggressively dismissing people's point of view is actually quite a violent and outlandish approach t...
