How is Zen Space doing - a poll for all members, active, inactive, lurkers, come one, come all!

I think the Forum is doing just fine and don't have any major suggestions for change.

The Forum is quite OK, but a few things could be better (see below for a list of suggestions to vote on).

The Forum, as it stands, is not great. Major changes are needed (see below for a list of suggestions to vote on).

I don't hold much hope for this place.

Suggestion 1: Moderation is too lax and needs to come down on the time-wasters and the rudeness.

Suggestion 2: Moderation is too strict and needs to lay off and let posts and threads be.
2

Suggestion 3: The conversation is dominated by the same voices and I can't really relate to it very much.

Suggestion 4: I wish Teachers and more experienced folks chimed in more.

Suggestion 5: I wish there were fewer "Teachers" and people setting others straight. I feel too intimidated by the self-appointed heavy-weights to join in the conversation or ask something.

Suggestion 6: I don't see the relevance of a lot of what is said to Zen or to my life and practice.

Well, I believe it would be a mistake to characterize "How Is Zen Space Doing" with any of my most recent participation in it, which in this thread has also been strictly off-topic. For me, ZFI was always the gold standard because of Carol and Gregory, the former of whom was such a helpful editor. But this blog has been and can be interesting and I hope it fullfills it's potential.

I find it heartening that people genuinely engage with the issues and brainstorm in a constructive manner on the way forward.

I really think this will prove helpful whether or not any rule/structure changes are actually made.

At the end of the day, the forum is us, all of us, including the lurkers who may or may not choose to speak up (i hope you do!!). Without you, I am an owner of some code. :bow2: :bow2: :bow2:

Sometimes (extra) rules and discipline are needed (e.g. my students on Thursday voted for me to tick off their homework fortnightly) as much as we may sometimes resent them.

This place is of course a work in progress, but to "see" so many good interesting people who care about the Dharma here is a wonderful thing. On a good day, at least, I am very grateful that it exists and to have a role to serve it in some way.

Actually I speculated that it might improve the quality of humor as well as meaningfulness. And to be brutally honest, improv may not be your thing anyway.

And just to be crystal clear, I see no problem at all with your posts and their frequency. I’m just trying to be cooperative.
Thanks, you're right.
I never figured out what my thing is, other then just being happy effortlessly. :)

Thanks Dan, that was heartfelt.

"Speak in koans" is what one says when someone says when they want to denigrate koan practice as silly and nonsensical. ....
I would think that if it denigrates perverse or fake practice if anything at all.

Careful what you wish for

I may have misunderstood but limiting the number of posts in the Lounge sounds a bit silly.

Although I might suggest my local coffee shop starts charging extra if people want to talk :D

And I can now speak from the great moral high ground of 0.3 posts per day

There should be a forum named non-zen.space wherein the mention of zen, meditation, and any and all sorts of related subjects and terms would be strictly prohibited, and the minimum number of posts per day would be 10.

An affiliated site within the "same space"

Please do not denigrate others and their ways.
Indeed, the koany denigrates the Rinzai way.
The "y" at the end of "koany" is a diminutive affix.

There is more to say about the Rinzai way, and why I agree with your opinion, but it is not healthy for me, in general, to seek argument with another right now.
Here, a grammar lesson for you...
Thanks! so very shikantazay of you.
