In winter I put out
Chicken livers
For the foxes.

One night I thought
Would I be doing this
If they were wolves?

Thank you. The passing of time in gentle contemplation and ephemera are at the heart of all things, personally speaking.

Resting in Zen space,
counting off the syllables;
a bell ringing, STOP!

Nothing in this poem
really matters except
that strange thing called a heart

You have important responsibilities, especially on behalf of your family, which you cannot, and should not, let go. Lives are at stake, and you are a faithful son. You must exercise judgment and control: you can't "let it all go".

Only let go of all that ought to be, in your judgment. Attachment can be problematic. See how you can be free and fully alive.

Letting go is something I have to work at all the time, leaves in the wind do it effortlessly! For me this is the heart of zen.

You've remind me those days i begin to read and learn about zen. You've better read about zen some.Old zen classicals would be fine.

My younger days passed in a sense of freedom.
So that feeling i had meet with zen.Now looking for those happy days.trying to find that sense of freedom which i've lost years ago.is it the books that caused so or my old age i don't know.

but sure one thing that sense freedom is what lies behind the practice.imo

I can relate Enver. seems to me that we go beyond that sense of freedom or whatever we call it. maybe that is the true practice. I've forgotten some of the paradigm and am left to simply be here. If I remember correctly.... "true freedom is no freedom at all" ~Sartre

Another log on the fire,
10,000 frogs singing in the rain
burst into flames

Have you found a Zendo, teacher, and/or sangha?
If you try just by yourself then the task is just so much more difficult.

Don’t forget the last picture, Returning to the World.
“Enlightenment means to see what harm you are involved in and to renounce it.” David Brazier, The New Buddhism

“The most straightforward advice on awakening enlightened mind is this: practice not causing harm to anyone—yourself or others—and every day, do what you can to be helpful.” Pema Chodron, “What to Do When the Going Gets Rough”
