Zen Space connects....

Post by fuki » Thu Jul 02, 2020 12:25 pm

If people want to share other places they visit relating to the dharma, this is the place to share them. I know Jundo and Crystal have/manage their own sites but you can share any dharma place you want.

Today I registered on this forum from Gilbert Gutierrez, I'm also on Guo Gu's Chan whatsapp group (pm me if you want to connect with the Chan group)
https://mind-work.mn.co/share/0zXaY2dKTmtryuKh
Gilbert Gutierrez is one of five lay Dharma heirs of Venerable Chan Master Sheng Yen and the only one to teach in North America. He's an attorney by trade practicing in Riverside, California. Gilbert’s meditative practice began more than 25 years ago. He studied various forms of meditation, martial arts and Chi Gong yet states that nothing that he has studied comes close to matching the simplicity and the beauty of the practice of Ch’an. Gilbert teaches in a very casual and accessible yet deep manner, drawing on everyday life situations as well as on the works of great masters. His weekly Dharma talks have been recorded and can be accessed as audio files on his Riverside group's webpage: http://dharmatalks.riversidechan.org/ or downloaded/subscribed as a podcast. Gilbert's Chan Mind Work forum features classical Chan Master-Chan Student interactions in a modern venue.
Gilbert has hosted this forum on WeChat for a while now and students have benefited enormously from this rare opportunity to train with a Chan Master in a way that would be hard to replicate outside of a small monastery setting. That forum is now moving to a platform where more can participate. Anyone with a sincere wish to participate and deepen their practice is welcome to join the group here: https://mind-work.mn.co/share/0zXaY2dKTmtryuKh

I have had the great karmic fortune to practice with ZMDK. He changed my practice, and by extension, my life. I am forever grateful. _/|\_

Edit: in relation to the topic, there is this: Kwan Um Online Sangha

Haha! I see now. :)

I have spent time with all three of the ZM’s in the videos , including multiple retreats with two of them. They are very different people, but they spent many years in the presence of ZM Seung Sahn, so the teaching they give is very consistent. For some folks, that’s a negative. I never understood why someone would come to that conclusion, but I have heard it a number of times in forumland. I am glad you see it as a positive, because that’s how I have received it personally. _/|\_

Don't know why people would see it as negative??
Whether the message is from Seung Sahn, Shinzen Young, Guo Gu, Bodhidharma, Dogen, Huang Po, or Buddha
It should all be the same. It shows that the truth comes to us undiluted.

Because the self-referential intellect needs to be satisfied with new knowledge, attainments, in the same way some ppl need to go on vacations all their lives, never satisfied no matter how many 'new' places they visit or new lands they 'discover'

many practisioners use their eyes, ears, nose etc body, mind to practise the darma, while 'hearing' the buddhadharma has nothing to do with using one's physical ears, so in that sense ppl can become bored with the same images. sounds/words, smells etc

though when there's no click for someone then it's best to look in other places, if one find's the right one (land/place/teacher/tradition), then stick with it.

All exactly the same, yet sometimes very different if not contradictory and incompatible. All good.

Many lovely ways to cook and present Tofu, although all the same Tofu.

One Heart Grace
By Zoketsu Norman Fischer

As we make ready to eat this food

we remember with gratitude

the many people, tools, animals and plants,

air and water, sky and earth,

turned in the wheel of living and dying,

whose joyful exertion

provides our sustenance this day.

May we with the blessing of this food

join our hearts

to the one heart of the world

in awareness and love,

and may we together with everyone

realize the path of awakening,

and never stop making effort

for the benefit of others.
