I remember from my SS days that "what is an orange" is the same as asking "why did bodhidharma come to China" in other words "what is truth" any answers would often be like "3 pounds of flax" bamboo in the north pine in the south, I would say "the cat in the front room" lol

but rinpoche didnt get that or he did and responded in his way, but the whole report sounds kind of shady to me, at least there must have been an ulterior motive for the one who allegedly witnessed and posted this. it only resulted in zen/tibetian ppl arguing on forums with a sense of a superiority of their tradition ofcourse, pretty useless.

but I always think oranges when I hear dharma battle lol

very strange to have an orange as a first association to dharma combat.
i c, ss and kalu pinpoche, kalu had to pretend and avoid, how sad..
