Of course, before Rock and Roll music rose to prominence in USA, Folk Music was king of the airwaves (and of the Victrola), in many areas for a while. Bob Dylan, among others, came in on this trend (before he went electric).

Here's a track from 1963 that I recall clearly blasting out of New York City radio stations, which I heard on my "All-Transistor" pocket AM radio, made in Japan. The radio had the name "Vornado" on its face, and was of golden and pebbly metal. I think my Dad paid $2 for it at the "Two Guys From Harrison" store for me.

Of course "All-Transistor" in those days meant only TWO transistor: one in the RF section, and one in the Audio frequency section, each to amplify its appropriate ac signal. Better receiver units had more transistors in each segment, and could "hear" fainter stations at greater distances, and play louder in the (tiny!) speaker, all powered by one 9-volt battery.

Here is "Walk Right In"; I'd call it a folk-tune. I don't know how musicologists categorize it.

This is The Rooftop Singers. The song was a #1 hit in USA in 1963.

Maybe "a new way of walkin' " is kinhin?

And, do I "want to lose my mind"?: why CERTAINLY. ;) And wake to Buddha-mind.... Again and again. :namaste:

Walk Right In

by: The Rooftop Singers

Walk right in, sit right down
Daddy, let your mind roll on
Walk right in, sit right down
Daddy, let your mind roll on
Everybody's talkin' 'bout a new way of walkin'
Do you want to lose your mind?
Walk right in, sit right down
Daddy, let your mind roll on

Walk right in, sit right down
Baby, let your hair hang down
Walk right in, sit right down
Baby, let your hair hang down
Everybody's talkin' 'bout a new way of walkin'
Do you want to lose your mind?
Walk right in, sit right down
Baby, let your hair hang down

Walk right in, sit right down
Daddy, let your mind roll on
Walk right in, sit right down
Daddy, let your mind roll on
Everybody's talkin' 'bout a new way of walkin'
Do you want to lose your mind?
Walk right in, sit right down
Daddy, let your mind roll on
Daddy, let your mind roll on.

For all you pickers out there:

Maybe you've heard him, but here's Billy Gibbons, guitarist of ZZ Top, in his internet "guitar lesson".

We can't be choosers, but the uploader of the video let it be posted with pinched audio or flat audio. It's still ok, let's say.

Billy Gibbons is a master Blues guitarist, and pretty good as a rock guitarist, too. ;-)

Here's his little history retrospective lesson of Blues-guitar names and figures, which has/have led to rock guitar.

But, no escaping the Blues.

This is Hope Sandoval, ex- of Mazzy Star, now with her own group, Hope Sandoval and the Warm Inventions.

The track is "Bavarian Fruitbread", from the album of the same name.

Bavarian Fruitbread

by: Hope Sandoval, and The Warm Inventions

Saw you
On the high street
A little bit out of love for me

Oh well, you'll always be
I've got a brand new machine
I'm gonna make myself treat you mean
I'm gonna spend all of my money
Making you cry

I forgot
I thought freely
You're the one that is untrusting

I've got a brand new set of wheels
I'm gonna drive you straight to tears
I'm gonna spend all of my money
Making you cry

[SPOILER]
The Southern trees bear a strange fruit
Blood on the leaves, and blood at the roots
Black bodies swinging in the Southern breeze
Strange fruit hanging from the poplar trees

Pastoral scene of the 'Gallant South'
The bulging eyes and the twisted mouth
Scent of magnolia, sweet and fresh
Then the sudden smell of burning flesh

Here is a fruit for the crows to pluck
For the rain to gather, for the wind to suck
For the sun to rot, for the tree to drop
Here is a strange and bitter crop

Wyatt’s version of the anti-lynching protest song, originally written by Abel Meeropol (pen name Lewis Allen), made famous by Billie Holiday, Nina Simone, and many others.
