How Buddhist meditation kept the Thai boys calm in the cave

The boys’ coach lived in a Buddhist monastery for a decade and taught them to meditate in the cave.

heart warming, good on the coach who held the boys together and taught meditation. it's an astonishing story. I read somewhere else that they took the strongest out first and then the weaker ones. all survived. life changing. :110:

also noticing how the article felt compelled to present a "meta analysis" of meditation.... and a silly cartoon of the coach holding his boys.... it's still far from comfortable for many ppl. never mind, it's in the news, water finds it's level.

My teacher, the Ven. Sheng Yen was sometimes in the news, regarding Buddhism. Here's a part of a tear-sheet from 21 1/2 years ago featuring news of a Buddhist conference he organized in Taiwan. --Joe

Female Buddhist Monastics in Thailand Continue to Fight for Equality

“It’s been 90 years and the social context has changed, but they still don’t accept us,” said Ven. Dhammananda. “It’s a shame that women aren’t allowed to make decisions for their own lives. You have to rebel against injustice because this is not right.” (Reuters)
