This made me think of the very excellent book "Thank You and Okay!" by David Chadwick. It is a very poignant and funny account of his time in Japan.

As to the topic, sometimes Sun-faced Buddha, sometimes Moon-faced Buddha. And that's ok.

K.,

Hi. Fine business. There was a lunar eclipse last night, visible in some precincts (not USA).

Joe, thanks will do before bedtime again. (another toujour that one)

As for sun faced, moon-faced buddha, that reminded me of Nick Mackenzie's "Hello good morning" song.

Whenever people ask I say "altijd" (always) ever since a little kid, simply because of not confusing the weather conditions with "just being"
Sometimes I joke with people if I ask them all's ok or how are you? you get a whole story of what they've experienced and drift of on the past and future, then I joke and say "I asked you how you are, not a weather report!" some pick up on the "koan" and drop the person shortly.

Later I changed it into "toujour" in memory of my ex's father who taught me the word and shared a vacation with in France, the country he adored.

Blessings, regarding France; I've never been East of about 70 degrees West: it was a total eclipse of the sun in Cap Chat, Canada, in July, 1972.

Clouds formed about 30 seconds before "totality", and persisted, so we missed the view of the sun in total eclipse. Thirty seconds after totality, the sun was "out" again.

Some NASA guys, a mile down the road, saw the whole thing.

We roll with the punches, in this Life! And sometimes we throw a few. Not that it always helps... . ;)

Yada, yada. We ought to play for you the Stones' track, "Street Fightin' Man". ;)

Now, what if The Beatles had written that and recorded that?: it would be called, "Punching-Out Lucy's Eyes in the Skies".

Glad it didn't happen!

Hmm; I THINK! Might have been interesting! :D

well, the full title of the book is: .... "Thank You and OK: an American Zen Failure in Japan"

and about David .... "Years of expensive Zen training gone to waste" - Zentatsu Richard Baker Roshi

David began zen practice in 1966, little that I know.... he created an archive for Susuki Roshi's teachings, was the Abbott at Tassajara Zen Center in the beginning and was responsible for it's founding.

David's work on Susuki Roshi.... http://www.shunryusuzuki.com/

David never stood on ceremony....
