Richard (Shindo Gensho) Jones

Post by Larry » Mon Feb 03, 2020 11:54 am

I don’t know how I missed this the first time round. A friend of mine practiced under Hogen Roshi and Tangen Roshi. This is his online biog....

“Rinzai Zen-teacher, Richard (Shindo Gensho) Jones, has been a Buddhist since 1983. He has practised Zen from 1985, being originally a student of Daido (Yamahata) Hogen Roshi (Abbot of Chogen-ji Temple, Japan and founder of the 'Open Way Association, Australia' and Spain). Gensho later studied with Daisetsu (Harada) Tangen Roshi, Soto Abbot of Bukkoku-ji Zen Temple, Obama-shi, Japan. He has practised Iyengar Yoga since 1973, and combines it with other types of Yoga, Tai Chi and Qigong exercises. He took Jukai precepts with Hogen Roshi in March 1998 and became a monk under Tangen Roshi at Bukkoku-ji in January 2009. Gensho began lay teaching as a Zenways Meditation and Mindfulness teacher in 2015. He later transferred to 'ZenSpace', becoming a Junior Rinzai Zen-teacher (07/12/17) and a full Rinzai Zen-teacher (24/08/19), under the direction of Barbara Jikai Gabrys Roshi. Gensho continues his studies under the direction of Jikai Roshi, following the teachings of Shinzan Miyamae Roshi in the Hakuin-Inzan line of Rinzai Zen. He also leads Sheffield ZenSpace and ArrivingHome. Gensho is a member of Lay Zen Teachers Association (LZTA).”

I’ve met three of his teachers. Jikai Roshi, Daizan Roshi (for some reason not mentioned in the biog) and Shinzan Miyamae Roshi.

What’s spooky is that just last night I was playing, to good effect, with an inquiry/koan that I picked up from a Tantric friend....”How do I know I’m not dead?”

And, as you can see, Jikai Roshi’s organisation is called “Zen Space”.

It’s a wacky old Universe :D

Ah, apology, much better. Pint and a steak, best.

Yes, I lurk here every now and then.

Do not think that I have come to bring peace to this forum. I have not come to bring peace, but a sword.

OK, checking out. In case someone takes my last few posts too seriously, go shikantaza some more.

An existence which doesn't wish peace does not exist.

A sword which doesn't wish peace is not a sword.

So and So,,,

Plus

WE call this concentrated (distilled) form of global peace calling as Zen.
gentleness and frustration in different form of coctails is my present psychology

Thank you, dad.

How does a thread originally titled Yamahata (Daidō) Hōgen (1935) become one called Richard (Shindo Gensho) Jones?
And where did the interesting info and link re. Hōgen Roshi disappear to? If that part is to be removed, might as well erase the whole sorry ass thread it became.
